ORGANIC WASTE MANAGEMENT POLICY

At Zorbas Group, we recognize the importance of social contribution and the need to protect the environment, incorporating environmental and social criteria in our business processes. At the same time, we develop strategies for the food we produce for consumption that at the end of the day ends up in losses/organic waste.

As part of our commitment to continuously reduce the environmental impact that may arise from the Group’s operations, we set improvement targets and adopt actions to prevent and reduce food waste.

Specifically, as a Group:

  • We act to reduce food waste production.
  • We act to record all quantities of food waste.
  • We work with food supply chain operators and social actors to recycle uneaten food through the “Social Food Donation” initiative.
  • We operate a food donation platform (FoodPrint).
  • We provide food to animal shelters, farms, piggeries etc.
  • We work with an organic waste treatment plant in Athienou.
  • We work with Cypra, which takes care of the collection, transport and delivery of organic waste to the aerobic and anaerobic biological station. From the treatment that the waste receives, biogas is produced which is used for the production of green electricity by the company.
  • The organic waste management policy is available to all stakeholders (employees, customers and suppliers of the company, state bodies, local residents, public) and is implemented by all employees of the Group.

The Organic Waste Management Policy is monitored through regular reviews by the Management, and the relevant Group Department, in order to confirm its appropriateness and effectiveness. This policy is updated and revised as appropriate.
